Ethnocentrism

Ethnocentrism is using your own culture as a standard to evaluate other cultures. This leads to the view that other cultures are strange. We sell these Larvets (seasoned meal worms) and Crickettes (seasoned crickets) at my work. Everyday I see customers pick them up and show their friends and families how disgusting and strange they are. They often ask me "Are these real?!" and "People ACTUALLY eat these?". In our culture eating bugs is so strange even though in other cultures it's a completely normal affair. In fact, people visiting from China or other places where they eat bugs would probably laugh in our faces when they saw our reactions to these seasoned insect snacks. Americans think that bug eating cultures are gross and strange because we do not eat them.
