Stranger

Stranger is a term used by sociologist Georg Simmel to describe people who are physically close but psychologically far away. A stranger could be anyone in a grocery store shopping alongside you or maybe even a classmate. They are people that you have no emotional connection to and usually you're unlikely to "know" them for very long. For example in an institution such as a college there are many students. Students see other students in passing everyday but they do not know each other. After the semester the students may not ever see each ever again even if they used to walk the same to class at the same time everyday. This idea of the stranger came out of the industrial revolution when more and more people started leaving their home and joining other public institutions.
